What is the 1-Day "Walk Your School" event?
Participants in the 1-Day "Walk Your School" event (October 16th, 2021) will meet at a local high school in Olathe, Blue Valley, or other district of their choice to walk 5.24 miles (One-fifth of a marathon) to raise awareness for teen mental health in the community. At least one parent from Blue Valley is walking 5.24 miles at 5 different high schools each on race day, for a total of 26.2 marathon, in one day. This is not a requirement, but just one example of how adults are interacting with the #GoTheDistance campaign to help teens in their community. See the Walk page for how to sign up.
How will donations be used?
All donations will be used to help mobilizing partners address the issue of teen mental health by providing more access to parents, students and schools to research-based prevention methods, mental-health first aid trainings, and other local programs that help reduce attempted and successful teen suicide in the communities they serve. See homepage links of mobilizing partners for more information.
What do participating partners do?
Participating partners offer either expertise in the field of mental health to help create tools and next steps for participants, or they offer to encourage their own networks to participate in the 30 days of hope challenge or the 1-Day Run/Bike/Walk event.
